Gene Walker

Beloved husband, dad, brother and friend. Loyal Eugene Walker, 86 years old, and a resident of Forney, TX went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 13, 2026. Gene was born on July 6, 1939, and lived a life defined by faith, hard work, curiosity, and a genuine love for people. Raised in Bronte, Texas, Gene enjoyed his youth playing football during his high school years. After graduation, he attended Angelo State College, beginning a lifelong pursuit of learning and personal growth. Gene later moved to Burleson, where he worked for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram while attending Texas Christian University, earning his master's degree. His strong work ethic and determination led him to a successful career with Southwestern Bell. Following the company's restructuring, Gene continued his career with AT&T. Never one to limit himself to a single profession, Gene was truly a jack of all trades. He ventured into real estate, flipping houses and conducting home inspections. After the real estate market downturn, he played an instrumental role in helping develop and launch the telecommunications department for American Airlines. As an innovator in the field, Gene was among the first individuals to experience and utilize computer-based video conferencing technology, long before it became commonplace. Following his retirement from American Airlines, Gene and his beloved wife, Skippie, embraced a new adventure together, traveling and selling cookware at cooking shows across the country. Their travels created many cherished memories and allowed Gene to connect with people from all walks of life. Above all else, Gene was a devoted man of faith. He faithfully served as a teacher of an adult Sunday School class at First Baptist Church of Forney. He was deeply committed to studying and understanding God's Word, spending countless hours researching Scripture and sharing practical applications for everyday life. His thoughtful insights, wisdom, and passion for teaching touched many lives and strengthened the faith of those who learned from him. Gene was also an avid fisherman whose love for the sport was unmatched. He seized every opportunity to be on the water and was a proud and active member of The Bass Club. Whether sharing fishing stories, offering advice, or teaching others what he had learned, Gene delighted in passing along his knowledge and enthusiasm. Those who knew Gene will remember him as a kind-hearted, generous, and encouraging man. His knowledge seemed endless, but it was his willingness to share that knowledge and invest in others that made him truly special. He genuinely cared for people and had a gift for making everyone feel valued and supported. His faith, wisdom, humor, and compassion left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path. Gene's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his work, his church, his friendships, and his family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His surviving relatives include his children Kim Scoggins, Mark & Kristi Walker, Laura & Joel Groves, Larry & Darlene Halbrook, grandchildren Matt Scoggins, Monica Banta, Jace & Malissa Halbrook, DaNeill Reyenga, Blaise and Brianna Halbrook, Alexandria Groves, Brianna Groves, Miranda Groves, Levi Groves, Aniston Wright, Hudson Wright, Blakely Walker, Darcee Faulk, Nancy Jenkins, Meagan Halbrook and many many great grandchildren, sibling Dwayne Walker as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family, his church family and countless friends. Preceding him in death are his loving wife Skippie Walker, his precious mother Mary Keeney, father Elbert Leslie Walker; son John Allen Walker; siblings Buddy Royce Walker, and Rena Lee Doggett. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, on Thursday July 2, 2026 at the Forum of First Baptist Church of Forney with visitation starting at 10:00am to service time. Graveside committal service will be at 3:00pm, Thursday, at Highland Cemetery in Edgewood, TX.
