Hortensia Hargrove

Maria Hortensia Chavez Hargrove, a lifelong resident of Terrell went to heaven on January 17, 2025. Hortensia was born on January 28, 1931 in Harlingen, Texas to Teodoro and Elvira Gomez Chavez both of whom preceded her in death, along with her husband William “Billy” Hargrove, son, Larry Gene Langley, daughter Patsy Ann Hurst (Langley), granddaughter Lalanie Lea Dean (Langley), brother Espimenio Chavez and sisters Fidela, Amelia, Micaela, Herminia, Adelina and Sophia. As a young girl, Hortensia worked alongside her siblings farming cotton and other crops in South Texas where she met her first husband, Howard Langley. They eventually moved the family to Forney where she continued farming and driving tractors for Mr. Clements for many years. She later moved to Terrell with her three children where she raised met and married Charles McDonald with whom she had a daughter. She worked for Rockwall Manufacturing for 15 years where she was a supervisor and built many custom windows that went into homes and churches around the area. She was no stranger to hard work and took great pride in every job that she had. Her strong work ethic is something that was instilled in her children by her example. In her later years, she worked for Kart Transportation (now STAR Transit) in Terrell as a driver transporting people to their medical appointments. She would often talk about some of her passengers with great fondness and did whatever she could to brighten their day, often bringing them snacks or a warm blanket to use during their ride. In her spare time, Hortensia enjoyed sewing and making beautiful quilts, mowing her yard and working around the house. She also loved caring for her plants and had some of the most beautiful red rose bushes in her front yard. In 1975, she met the love of her life, Billy Hargrove and they were together for 45 years. They went on many adventures together and vacations to Colorado where they both enjoyed camping and nature. Their relationship was complicated at times, but through it all they were never able to be without each other. Their love endured a lifetime together. She was a legend to those who knew her and made the best Thanksgiving dressing for her family to enjoy. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Hortensia is survived by her son, Harold Langley and wife Gail of Terrell; daughter, Charlene Pinkerton and husband Sam of Coppell; sisters, Lucila Guajardo of McKinney and Maria Guadalupe Quintana of Harlingen; daughter-in-law, Dieann Langley of Terrell; son-in-law, Ken Hurst of Ohio; grandchildren, Chris Langley and wife Crystal; Dieanna Fuller and husband Derek; Sissy Himes and husband T.J.; Mason Pinkerton and wife Ashleigh; great grandchildren, Joseph Langley, Brittni Oldham, John Brown, Jarrod Lane, Logan Womble, Lauryn Dean-Serrano and Nolan Pinkerton, eight great, great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and other extended family in Harlingen and Ohio. A Celebration of Life with friends and family will be held at a later date.
