James O. Springer

James Owen Springer was born December 7,1920 in Terrell, Texas and he joined his wife in Heaven Thursday, January 28, 2016. James graduated from Terrell High School in 1937 and also graduated from the SMU Graduate School of Banking. James served in the Army Air Corp during World War II where he received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars. He was employed at American National Bank of Terrell for 44 years and he retired as Senior Vice-President. James was active in the Terrell Community and served as Treasurer for several community service organizations such as the Salvation Army and the Red Cross. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Terrell where he served as Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. James was preceded in death by: his parents –James Oliver Springer and Lottie Myrtle Roberts Springer; two sisters—Mary Helen who died at 3 years of age and Sister Getta Fern. Her first husband was Dudley David and second husband was Charlie Davis. Also preceding him was a son James Owen who died in infancy and his son-in- law, Joe Chambers. His dear wife of 71 years, Emily Nell Henderson Springer, died in 2014. He is survived by Two daughters: Carol Chambers of Spring, Texas, Susan and husband Mike Smith of Jacksonville, Texas; Five Grandchildren: Cyndi Hudson and husband Bob of Senaobia, Mississippi, Mason Rollins of the Woodlands, Texas, Allison Combrink and husband Lance of the Woodlands, Texas, Elaine Gardner and husband James of West Monroe, Louisiana, Lance Smith and wife Asheley of Flint, Texas; Ten Great Grandchildren Adam Hudson of Spring, Texas, Ross Hudson of Senatobia, Mississippi Mason, Jack, and Alexa Combrink of The Woodlands, Texas, William, Emma, and Jacob Gardner of West Monroe, Louisiana, Logan and Landon Smith of Flint, Texas; one sister-in-law, Evalyn Crouch and husband James of Terrell, Texas; one brother-in-law, John Vance of Rockwall, Texas; nephews: Keith Crouch and wife Sarah and Paul Crouch and wife Phyllis; nieces: Teresa Norvell and husband Monty and Jan Crawford and husband Pat as well as a host of friends. Funeral service will be at 3:00pm, Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with the family receiving friends beginning at 2:00pm to service time.
