Jimmy Powell

Jimmy Joe Powell of Elmo, Texas went home to be with the Lord on December 25, 2016 surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was born January 13, 1939 in Tyler, Texas to Jessie Mae Human Powell and James Charles Powell both of whom preceded him in death along with his brothers, Bobby Powell and Charles Powell. Jimmy had a heart for service as well as an exemplary work ethic during his life. His interests were always varied and he believed in working at as many opportunities so that he could learn more and serve others. He graduated from Terrell High School in 1958 and then enlisted in the Army National Guard where he was activated during the Berlin Crisis and served honorably with the 49thArmored Division. He worked at American National Bank and retired in 2009. He also worked at Reliable Life Insurance Company, owned a local jewelry store called Gold Mine, was a private investigator, worked at Elmo Water Supply Corporation as well as worked as a Deputy City Marshal for the City of Terrell. Jimmy was a charter member of the Terrell Boat Club and the friendships he made there were long lasting and steadfast. Even though Jimmy worked all his life, he definitely made time for the “important things”. He loved to fish and spend time with family. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren with many of those hours spent making memories that will be cherished forever. He was a devoted husband, loving father and extra-fun grandfather and he will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Patsy Powell, his daughter Lori Crow and husband Randy of Kaufman, daughter Lisa Lane and husband Kelly of Terrell, and son Jimmy Jacob Powell and Dante Arrieta of Dallas; grandchildren: Jennifer Matthews and husband Clint of Kaufman, Randi Owen and husband Yancy of Kaufman, Rodney Crow and wife Amanda of Kaufman, Katie Hare and husband Ryan of Elmo and Kelsie Lane and Zach Frazier of Rockwall; great grandchildren: Jacie Pfeifer, Emily Matthews, Hayden Matthews, Abby Owen, Rylie Crow, Ransom Crow, Ally Owen and Arry Owen, Evelyn Hare, Zachary Helms as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with Dr. Bob Price officiating.
