Joe Matura

Joe Ance Matura, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on May 29, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family. Joe was born on January 5, 1946, in Knox City, Texas, to Adolf and Velma Matura. He was preceded in death by his son, Andy Matura; his parents; his sisters, Frances Brown and Clara Fay; his father-in-law, Jim Lovell; his mother-in-law, Annette Lovell; and his sister-in-law, Paula Lovell. He is survived by the love of his life, Margaret Lovell Matura; his children, Matt Matura, Rhonda Matura Talbert, Casey and Meredith Wiley, and Zach and Autumn Wiley; and his grandchildren, Andy Matura, Taylor Wheeler and her husband Joe, Traci Sheram and her husband Kelsey, Tryce Talbert, Ally Shelton and her husband John-Wesley, Caden Wiley, Reese Wiley, and Reagan Wiley. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Easton, Beckham, and Tyler Wheeler; Mason and Bailee Sheram; and Archie Shelton. Additional survivors include his brother, Rudy Matura and wife Jean; his sister and brother-in-law, Sherrie and Mike McBurney; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Eli. After owning his own gas station, Joe spent the majority of his professional career in the automobile business. He worked at Queen City Chevrolet in Wills Point before finishing his career at Musser Motors in Terrell. Throughout his years in the car business, Joe earned a reputation for honesty and integrity, building relationships with customers that often grew into lifelong friendships. One of Joe’s greatest joys was traveling with Margaret. Together they enjoyed trips to Asheville, North Carolina; Galveston; Fredericksburg; and Glen Rose. He also spoke fondly of travels to Alaska and Idaho. Above all, Joe was a man of quiet faith, steadfast in his belief in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. As a family, we hold fast to the hope and promise of being reunited with Joe in the presence of Christ in Heaven someday. Funeral service celebrating Joe's life and legacy will be at 2:00pm, Friday, June 5, 2026 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Chisholm Cemetery in McClendon-Chisholm, Tx. His family will receive friends 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Thursday, June 4, 2026 at the funeral home.
