John William Cook

John William Cook went to be with the Lord peacefully with his family at his side on Dec. 14, 2023. A celebration of his life will be at 10:30am, Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Terrell Bible Church located at 801 Johnson St. in Terrell. A lunch and reception will immediately follow the service at the fellowship hall. The service will be livestreamed at the church's website, www.terrellbible.org. John was born to William Cook and Eleanor Lenz in W. Frankfort, IL on November 29, 1943. He graduated from Texas Tech University and was one of the founders of Sigma Phi Epsilon on the campus. He was also on the Golden Gloves boxing team. John married Lori and have been married for over 41 years. He was a faithful servant at their church, Terrell Bible, volunteering in various capacities, including the fellowship committee. He welcomed the opportunity to tell others about the Lord and was quick to forgive others who may have wronged him. John never met a stranger and was an encourager, especially to the young. He retired from UPS and started Video and Tanning in 1987 and closed in 2001. John had a calling to get involved in politics to get godly people elected and to encourage Christians to vote. He served on the State Republican Executive Committee and was relentless in his calling, even walking door to door with snow on the ground. John enjoyed his children and grandchildren at every opportunity. John and Lori enjoyed traveling and were blessed to have visited many places in the U.S. and outside the U.S. He also enjoyed photography and working with his hands on various projects. John was preceded in death by his parents and sister Peggy. He is survived by his wife Lori, daughters Tara and Erin, son Josh, 7 grandchildren, 5 great children, brother David and countless friends. He will be remembered by his love for his family, his contagious smile, his generosity, his patriotism, and his love for the Lord Jesus. My Dear John, I am so thankful to the Lord for putting us together years ago though we were unaware that it was His doing. We know each other so well and (even so) I love you for who you are. Your “tough guy” attitude is only a façade to your true character of compassion and love. I love you because of your gift of encouragement, your smiling face and wit. And I love you for putting up with me through these years and look forward to seeing you in heaven, by God’s grace. Lori
