Joy LaVon Martin Palmer

Joy LaVon Martin Palmer, of Terrell, passed away peacefully into the presence of her Savior on Jan. 27, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Joy was born Nov. 9, 1929 in Dallas to Preston William and Jennie May Martin. She was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, her beloved husband, Fred Palmer, her son Ricky Palmer, her brothers: J.W., Bill, Michael, and Dale and her sisters: Jean Elizabeth Martin, Ann Dean and Carrol Holloway. Joy was a devoted wife and loving mother and staying involved with her husband and children were her pride and joy. She was active in many of her children’s activities including being a Girl Scout Leader and Cub Scout Leader. She embodied the Proverbs 31 woman by ensuring that the love she showed in her home to family and friends reflected the love she had for her Heavenly Father. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Terrell where she served actively and faithfully. Joy had a natural green thumb and she was a lifetime member and Past President of the Terrell Garden Club where she made many friends and memories. A beautiful gentle spirit, Joy leaves a legacy of love and a true servant’s heart for others to each person privileged to know her. She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Robby Palmer and wife, Joy, of Terrell, Ray Palmer and wife, Janet of Terrell, Rhonda Dyess and husband, Paul of Wills Point, Randy Palmer and wife, Janet of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren: Aaron Palmer, Leslea Evans and husband, Chris, Kylie Palos and husband, Manuel, Kristopher Paul Palmer and wife, Lisa, Clay Paul Dyess and wife, Katherine, Adam Wesley Dyess, Brian Palmer, Scott Palmer, Daniel Palmer and wife, Lyndsay, and April Palmer; great grandchildren: Blakely, Brennan, Isabella, Gage, Kelsey, Macy, Kaitlynn, Jackson and Zoe; sisters: Jeanette Plunkett and Kay Krebs as well as many other nieces, nephews, extended family, church family and a host of friends. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Weaver Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 30 at Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations.
