Lois Hanan

Mattie Lois Hanan, of Terrell, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2023. Mattie was born October 23, 1936 in Roanoke, AL to John T. and Mattie Lou (Orr) Johnson, both of whom preceded her in death along with her husband, Clifford Lamar Hanan, who passed in 2021, her daughter, Karen Wood, grandson, Jason Scott Wood and sisters: Ruth Robert Bolin and Johnnie Mae Vanderford. Lois was a devoted wife and mother, and later, grandmother who was always the number one supporter of her husband and her family. On May 15th, 1954, she and Cliff were married in Grand Prairie after which, they moved to Terrell in 1963. Lois worked at White’s Home and Auto and, for over 35 years, the community came to know and trust her as she helped them with whatever they needed to buy to make life easier. She had a fun and friendly personality that made everybody feel comfortable in any situation. Her children were her life, and she was involved in many of their activities over the years including being a Girl Scout Troop Leader and the many outdoor events. She was a member of First Christian Church for many years until she and Cliff moved to Hughes Springs after their retirement. Moving further to ‘the country’ allowed Lois to enjoy more hunting, fishing, and camping. One of her proudest moments was when she was able to successfully hunt an 8-point buck during one of the trips with her family. She also enjoyed gardening with her plants and roses, playing 42 and other games with friends and last-minute trips to any destination that caught her eye. Lois had a wonderful zest for life that kept everyone on their toes and everyone that knew her was a willing participant in all her adventures. She never took a day for granted and, of all her accomplishments, her work ethic, her grandchildren, and her family were what she considered to be the best of her life. She will be greatly missed, always remembered, and forever cherished by the ones she loved and loved her. Lois’ memory will continue to be celebrated by her children: Debbie White and husband, Clifton, of Lone Star, TX, Cliff Hanan and wife, Susan, of Terrell, TX, and Terri Taylor and husband, George, of Terrell, TX; grandchildren: Clint, Clay, and Kevin White, Chris and Matt Hanan, Chad and Kari Wood and Kyle Phillips; great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ben Hanan; nieces and nephews that were as close as siblings: Larry Roberts and wife, Sue, and Brenda King and husband, Billy as well as other beloved family along with many friends. Funeral service will be at 2:00pm, Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with her family receiving friends beginning at 1:00pm to service time. After the service, Lois will be laid to rest next to her husband, Cliff, at College Mound Cemetery.
