Nell Valentine

Armer Nell Valentine passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side on October 13, 2023. Nell was born in Kaufman County to William and Mandie Whittenburg on July 5, 1935. She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 51 years, John "Whitey" Wesley Valentine, sisters Lois Johnson and Hazel Garrett, and brothers William Edward Whittenburg and Lonnie Douglas Whittenburg. Nell was a natural when it came to making everything around her beautiful; she was creative beyond measure and could turn a simple object into a masterful piece of art. She would love to draw, paint with oils, turn single flowers into bouquets of majesty and an average flowerbed into a beautiful garden. You would often find her painting scenes of the Bible that drew in an audience to admire and bring the story to life. She also would walk around singing joyfully, although she did not consider herself a very gifted singer, yet those around her would breathe in the beauty of the melody and words she would sing. Nell worked for Southland Athletic in Terrell for many years. She worked in the art department where she created the art work for lettering and numbers as well as logos and mascots. Later Nell worked in with floral business as a designer at her sister Willie Adam’s flower shops. When Willie closed those shops she began working at Flowerfields Florist, in Terrell. After retiring from there, and being one who likes to stay busy, she continued to make bows for them from home. Nell was a faithful member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Terrell where she would sing in the choir and raise her voice with others to bring praise to her Savior, Jesus Christ. Of all the wonderful things Nell created in her life, her treasured creation was her family; Nell would dote over her kids, her grandchildren, her family, and to her, they were her whole heart and world. Left to carry on Nell's legacy of love are her children Dian Burk and husband Jim, Pam Quattlebaum and husband Mickey, John Valentine and wife Lisa, Kristi Barbosa and husband Ruben. Also, left to remember Nell fondly are her grandchildren: Jaime Simons and husband Rodney, Angela Mason and husband Ryan, Shelly Pringle and husband James, John Valentine and wife Mariya, Trent Valentine and wife Hannah, Colton Valentine, Alice Bryant, Emma Bryant, Kali Squires, Bryan Squires along with 11 great grandchildren and her beloved sister Willie Adams and sister-in-law Maxine Darst Flatt and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. Services are scheduled for Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel beginning at 2 p.m. There will also be a visitation one hour prior to service time on Wednesday. The family request in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
