Sara was born on March 18, 1939, in Maruthikattil, Nellickamon, Ranni, Kerala, India, to Philip Varughese and Mariamma Philip. She is preceded in death by her husband, Yohannan Chacko; her dear parents; brother, MP Varughese; and sister, Annamma Thomas. Sara attended the Brethren Assembly and was dedicated to her studies. She would walk a long distance, crossing small creeks to get to school. When it rained, the water would rush like a river. One time, she got caught in the current. By God’s grace, a teacher was near and pulled her out to safety. She completed school at St. Thomas High School in Kerala, India. She completed nursing school in Indore, M.P., in 1963. She became certified as a Nursing Sister Tutor in 1965. Later, she was employed as a staff nurse at the ESI hospital in Gwaliar. She worked and advanced to become the Hospital Matron (Chief Nurse) of ESI hospital. Sara’s faith was unmatched, and she made her confession of faith through baptism in Gwaliar by Brother Philip Abraham on September 16, 1962. She found true love and joined her life with Yohannan Chacko on June 1, 1966, in Bhopal, India. She became a dedicated member of the Marthoma Church in Gwaliar for many years. Sara and Yohannan were blessed with two boys, Abey and Robby. Together, they created many memories and adventures until Yohannan’s passing on December 20, 1981. Her husband’s desire was for the family to move to America. To fulfill his wish, Sara immigrated alone to the United States in February 1982, where she came to live with her sister and brother-in-law in Oklahoma. Her faith never wavered, and she attended a Pentecostal Church. Her children joined her in Yukon, OK, in January 1984. Sara worked at the VA Hospital and then at Oklahoma Memorial Hospital. She retired to travel and spend time with her grandchildren, then moved to Dallas, Texas, to spend the rest of her days. Sara enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting, cooking, and shopping with her sister. She was devoted to prayer, ladies' ministry, and mission work and was known for her godly character, courage, compassion, strong work ethic, and charitable spirit. Above all, she was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Saramma is survived by her son, Abey Chacko and wife, Grainer; son, Robby Chacko and wife, Jolly; grandchildren: Dwight, Daniel, Albert, Joshua, and Victoria Chacko; sister, Mariamma Thomas and husband, Kurian; nephew, Obed Thomas and wife, Sheril, and children Esther, Aliyah, and Shiloh; niece Deborah Samuel and husband, Stanley, niece Phebe Thomas, as well as her nephews and nieces (the children of her late siblings). Services for Sara will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Terrell First Assembly in Terrell, Texas with an interment to Oakland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00p.m. - 7:00p.m., Friday June 26, 2026 at the funeral home.
